Scalloped potatoes: what can I say . . . . you know the movie Ratatouille? When the old food critic has a total flashback of his childhood? This is what scalloped potatoes does to me !!!
Thinly sliced potatoes cooked in milk with some parmesan cheese and a little bit of salt . . . as simple as that . . . but then soooo yummy !!
Timballo di Riso is a sort of rice pie . . . . basically it is made with two layers of rice dressed with tasty tomato sauce with a layer of ham, sliced hard boiled egg and mozzarella in between.
Perfect for a one dish dinner, but really good cold so you can pack it in a lunch box and have a happy child!!
A dish for 4 people is Euro 27,00
The ingredients are: rice, tomato sauce, onion, carrot, celery, oil, butter, cooked ham, mozzarella cheese, hard boiled egg, parmigiano reggiano, salt.
Saturday evening I catered a stand up dinner party for about 30 adults and 10 kids ( age between 3 and 10 )
The menu was very simple but tasty:
I had on going trays of Salame Toscano and Salame Milanese, and Prosciutto Crudo with different kinds of bread and crackers and bread sticks.
Trays of bruschette made with tomato and mozzarella and garlic and basil, and trays with crostini made with tuscan sausage and stracchino warm from the oven were kept full.
The main dish was made of two different kinds of lasagna, one was the usual meat lasagna and the other was made with ricotta and spinach . . . . then there was a nice big bowl of pappa al pomodoro.
Then I served a fresh inslata mista and dessert: mignon pastry and Schiacciata alla Fiorentina "stuffed" with Chantilly creme . . . . decadent!!!
The kids ate pop-corn, chips, carrot sticks, celery sticks and hot dogs . . . . they all seemed happy with their little menu !
Of curse I brought my camera and was really meaning to take pictures . . . . . of course in real life . . . I was so busy working and preparing. . . that now we have no pictures !!
